There is not much to say about this. It is an excellent presentation of self defense, takedowns, and capture techniques. It is geared towards police, so the techniques reflect the goal of capturing a relatively uninjured violent criminal...but it is excellent.

None of the modern, so-called "masters" write anything this good.

It is good.
Boring book.
Another interesting translation by Mr. Eric Shahan of late 19th/early 20th century Japanese literature concerning bugei application & history. I highly recommend reading it.
This is a good and interesting book if you also study an effective Japanese martial art like Bujinkan/Genbukan/Jinenkan. I train in the Bujinkan and find it very interesting and see how it fits into the Meiji period of Japan.
Very interesting perspective. Things have changed since the early 1900's but the foundation is the same. It's a good read for base and historic knowledge.
wow a great historical piece this predates fujitas kenpo zukal and shows some good roots here....again mr eric went out of his way to do some extra research which helps this is not really a teach your self karate book but in the time it was written i see why its a dojo/training accessory that should be got by
any who train in any kind of ninjutsu/kobudo because unfortunately in my training research everything has kenpo jujutsu in it as well as some versions or views of kenpo back then had koppo and koshi or s*** in it also in my research again this is mine...there was alot of blurring between koga and iga as some of those ryu bounced back and forth its more than one ryu ...so the whole koga ryu is extinct i dont think is exactly truth.
but there is truth in going back and tracing some of these ryu study that is how/where alot of people claim some certain koga claims are BS rightfully so.
also love the research on the spy towards the end awesome.
Surprisingly detailed, and a very interesting book from a historical perspective. Some of the drawings are a bit unclear, as are the descriptions, but that isn't the fault of the translator, that I can see. There is a lot written about various koryu jujutsu styles that were incorporated into the police program described in the book, which is pretty cool.
There is not much to say about this. It is an excellent presentation of self defense, takedowns, and capture techniques. It is geared towards police, so the techniques reflect the goal of capturing a relatively uninjured violent criminal...but it is excellent.
